The plot is dire (too daft to be taken seriously, but too earnest to play the 'actually it's intentional' card), the characters are paper-thin, and player interaction with NPCs virtually always boils down to 'yes', 'no', 'tell me more', and 'sarcasm'.
The survival mode could be (and probably was) thrown together in a single work day, with lunch breaks. If you intend to invest any significant time in this game, the odds are that you don't end up having many achievements because using the mod loader disables achievements, and one of the first and most important mods is the 'unofficial fallout 4 patch', which Bethesda still - still! - haven't integrated into the game proper. It is poorly written, unimaginatively designed, and painfully buggy - even now, eight (8!!!) years after launch. Put simply, Fallout 4 pales in comparison to previous entries in the series.
